There are more than 7 headless tigers in the tattooing series, but only the first headless tiger to the seventh headless tiger are allowed to tattoo for an individual disciple with the consideration of LP Chanai.

LP Chanai is a famous monk in the northeastern part of Thailand and is the abbot of Sang Ka Pree Dee temple, Khon Kaen province.
LP Chanai directly consecrated this amulet collection for the special event of the temple in 2022.

Trump tariff uncertainties push safe-haven gold to record high

(Reuters) - Safe-haven demand due to geopolitical uncertainties and concerns over global economic growth amid U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans have hoisted gold prices to a record high, once again bringing the key $3,000 threshold onto investors' radar.

Spot gold climbed to a record high of $2,798.40 a troy ounce on Thursday, starting 2025 with fresh vigour after logging its strongest annual performance since 2010 last year.

"There's concerns that some of the (economic) growth may come down because of the policies and tariffs that the current administration is looking to implement," said Phillip Streible, chief market strategist at Blue Line Futures.

"So when you've got higher inflation and lower growth, stagflation becomes the economic theme. Gold tends to work very well in that particular environment."

Trump's tariff plans are widely perceived as inflationary and with potential to trigger trade wars, driving up safe-haven demand for bullion as it is traditionally seen as a hedge against price pressures and geopolitical uncertainty.

"I can see (gold) trying to reach up to that $2,900 level at some point during the first quarter; after we breach that, we'll set new levels," said Bob Haberkorn, senior market strategist at RJO Futures.

"At some point this year, gold could ultimately trade north of $3,000."

THE US MARKET

Amid concerns about the U.S. import tariff plans, the U.S. gold futures have been trading at a premium to the spot price for several months and widened the price spread again on Thursday.


In a sign of these concerns, 12.9 million troy ounces of gold were delivered to COMEX-approved warehouses since late November, raising stocks there by 73.5% to 30.4 million ounces, the highest since July 2022.

The deliveries came from London, Switzerland and other major gold-trading hubs.

The London Bullion Market Association said on Thursday that it was monitoring the situation and liaising with CME Group (NASDAQ:CME) and U.S. authorities.

London gold market stocks and liquidity remain strong with the average daily trade volume since the start of January is 47.1 million ounces, the association added.

GOLD AND THE US RATE EXPECTATIONS

Gold hit multiple record peaks last year, bolstered by the Federal Reserve's rate-cutting cycle, safe-haven demand and robust central bank buying.

The Fed, in its January meeting kept benchmark interest rates unchanged as widely expected, after easing a full basis point in 2024. This marks the first pause since the start of its easing cycle in September.

The non-yielding bullion tends to thrive in a low-interest rate environment.

As to purchases by central banks, the People's Bank of China has been a key driver of gold demand as it kept on adding bullion to its reserves over the past year despite the price growth - in what analysts see as the PBOC's broader strategy to diversify the reserves.

Analysts suggest that continued purchases by China's central bank could provide further support to gold prices in the coming months.

LONDON, Jan 29 (Reuters) - London bullion market players are racing to borrow gold from central banks, which store bullion in London, following a surge in gold deliveries to the United States on speculation of potential import tariffs there, two sources familiar with the matter said.
The minimum waiting time to load gold out of the Bank of England, which stores gold for central banks, has reached four weeks, one of the sources said. In normal times, the release time is a few days or a week.

U.S. President Donald Trump has not mentioned precious metals in his tariff plans, but the risk has been enough to boost gold deliveries to New York as part of the market sought to hedge its positions on the U.S. COMEX (CME.O), opens new tab exchange and part sought to benefit from a jump in the price premium of COMEX futures over London spot prices .
London is home to the world's largest over-the-counter gold trading hub, where market players trade directly with each other rather than via an exchange.

"The key with the BoE is that they are not a commercial vault so not prepared to handle the onslaught of gold borrowing banks are requesting from the central banks," said Robert Gottlieb, an industry expert and former head of precious metals at Koch Supply and Trading.
The size of so-called Loco London free float, the amount of gold readily available to the London OTC market stored in London, has fallen after the jump in supplies to New York.

Over the last two months, 12.2 million troy ounces of gold were delivered to COMEX-approved warehouses , raising stocks there by 70% to 29.8 million ounces, the highest since August 2022.

Reports of the flow of gold to New York attracted the attention of the British parliament's Treasury Committee, one of whose members asked BoE Governor Andrew Bailey on Wednesday whether he saw any risks in this development.

"We are not in the gold standard anymore, it doesn't have significance for policy in that sense," Bailey replied, referring to an extinct monetary system where gold backed the value of a currency.
However, London remained a major gold market, and "if you want to be involved in that market and you want to trade and use your gold, you really need to have it in London," Bailey added.

Deliveries to the U.S. left less free-float metal in London vaults, the metal that is not owned by central banks or holdings of physically-backed gold exchange-traded funds. This in turn boosted demand from players in London who are ready to lease their gold and make it available to the OTC market.

Liquidity challenges in other large trading hubs are less pronounced than in London but are being felt globally, said Alexander Zumpfe, a precious metals trader at Heraeus Metals.

"The logistical complexities of moving large quantities of gold, particularly from Europe to the U.S., are amplifying these stresses. Asia has also seen some knock-on effects, particularly in markets like Singapore and Hong Kong," Zumpfe added.

“Bull Market” vs. “Bear Market”: What Do These Financial Terms Mean For Your Wallet?

Financial jargon can be intimidating, and that’s especially true of the stock market terminology. But even if you’re not an investor, many of these terms can be relevant to your life due to their bearing on the larger economy. You’ve probably heard the terms bull market and bear market, but what exactly do they mean, and what’s the difference?

In this article, we’ll explain bull markets and bear markets, the differences between them, and what they mean for everyone—not just stock traders.

The term bull market is applied to a market (especially a stock market) in which prices are, on average, rising. A bear market is the opposite—one in which prices are falling. At any given time, the market is usually described as one or the other—with bull and bear markets alternating as part of an ongoing cycle.

What is a bull market?

In discussions of the stock market and the greater economy, the term bull market is typically applied when prices on average are on the rise, or when they’re expected to rise. The terms bull market and bear market are most closely associated with the stock market, but they can also be used in the context of other markets, including those for real estate, currencies, and other commodities.

Using the term bull market is informal—there’s no formal metric to measure or determine when a bull market is happening. Still, a 20% increase in prices is often used as the ballpark figure that indicates a bull market.

Usually, a bull market happens when the economy is strong or getting stronger. High employment rates, high gross domestic product, and other measures of economic well being and stability are generally thought to correlate with bull markets.

Bull markets are often categorized as secular (indicating a period of growth lasting more than five years) or cyclical (indicating a shorter-term period of growth).

In the context of stocks and finance, the related adjective bullish can mean “rising in prices,” “characterized by favorable economic prospects,” or, more informally, “regarding a particular investment as potentially profitable,” as in We’re still bullish on treasury bonds.

As a noun, bull can refer to a person who believes that market prices, especially of stocks, will increase.

Why is it called a bull market?

The first records of bull market and bullish in the context of finance and the stock market come from the late 1800s, but the noun use of bull in the context of stock investment—to refer to both a type of an investment and an investor—predates both. The origin of the use of the word bull in this way is uncertain. In general, the bull is associated with aggression and is known to charge forward, like a rising market. One explanation for the use of the word bull in bull market likens the upward swing of a bull market to the motion in which a bull may attack—by throwing its horns upward.

A bear market occurs when prices are falling, or when they’re expected to decrease. Like bull market, the term usually refers to the stock market, but it can also be used in the context of real estate, currencies, and other commodities. There’s no formal metric to measure when a bear market is happening, but a 20% decline in prices is sometimes used as the threshold.

As you might expect, bear markets result from the opposite of the conditions thought to constitute or correlate with bull markets. Low economic stability and high unemployment, low gross domestic product, and low corporate profits are traditionally thought to correlate with the downturns associated with a bear market. Like bull markets, bear markets can be categorized as secular or cyclical.

The related adjective bearish can mean “declining or tending toward a decline in prices” or “characterized by or reflecting unfavorable prospects for the economy or some aspect of it.” Or it can be used informally to mean “regarding a particular investment as poor or unprofitable,” as in We’re still bearish on treasury bonds.

Why is it called a bear market?

The noun use of bear in the context of the stock market to refer to types of investments or investors came before its use in bear market, but, like bullish, the origin of these senses is uncertain. In general, while bulls are known for charging aggression, bears—while fearsome—are especially associated with hibernation. This is one interpretation of the use of bear in bear market—likening the retreat of the market to a bear’s dormant period. Another interpretation is that a bear attacks by swiping downward—a motion likened to the downswing of a bear market.

bear vs. bull market

The difference between a bear market and a bull market is the direction of prices and the general success or health of the market. Simply put, it’s a bear market when prices are going up, and it’s a bull market when prices are going down.

To remember which is which, remember that bulls are known for being aggressive and charging ahead, (like the prices in a rising market), while bears are known for hibernating (likened to how investors might scale back investments during market downturns).

A few extreme examples of bear markets are the Great Recession around the 2008 financial crisis and the Great Depression, which roughly began with the stock market crash of 1929. In contrast, the post-World War II economic boom is considered an example of a bull market. But there are many other examples. That’s because at any given time the market is usually described as one or the other—meaning they alternate as part of an ongoing cycle.

Stock investors have many strategies to try to profit from both increases and decreases in stock prices, which means that just because it’s a bear market doesn’t mean there’s not a lot of transactions happening.
